You've got to
get at the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) to install the TEC. Do this by removing the
2 10mm resonator
bolts and loosening the 2 hose clamps that attach the factory
resonator to the Throttle body, Intake Tube, and Cylinder head. Pull the resonator up and towards the driver's side of the car to
detach the crankcase breather tube.
- The TPS is the small black object on the
driver's side of the Throttle Body. Unhook the TPS connector (3-prong plug) and pull the connector off of the TPS. NOTE:
pull the TPS connector STRAIGHT UP carefully to avoid damaging the
connector pins. TIP:
if the TPS connector wires are routed beneath the throttle body (and
down between the intake runners) you may want to fish them out over
the runners to provide wire slack for the next step.
- Plug the
TPS connector into the receptacle on the TPS-TEC. Be sure to plug the connector in carefully, otherwise you will bend
the pins. Then
plug the TPS-TEC into the Throttle Position Sensor on the Throttle
body. The
TPS-TEC comes with no mounting provisions. On the 2.4L, there is
a flat spot on the intake brace that you can rest it on. Use the
4 10" nylon wire ties (connect them together to form 2 20"
ties, or just use 20" ties) to fix the TPS-TEC to the intake
runner.
- Now it's
time to test for operation. Turn the ignition to the ON position
(not start). The STANDBY (red) light should be on. This
means the TPS-TEC is reading TPS voltage OK and you didn't bend any
pins. Next, open the throttle (you can move it by rotating the
throttle arm located under the small black cover on the Throttle body)
to about 75% open. The TPS-TEC ACTIVE (green) light should
light. If so, you've just fooled your PCM into
giving your car more power!
- Reinstall
the Resonator assembly, making sure that the crankcase breather tube
is attached correctly. Then go out and have fun!
