Removing Your Intake Resonator

Skill Level Step-By-Step Instructions
Easy
  1. Park vehicle with wheels turned fully right.  Jack up the front driver's side of the car and remove the wheel.
  2. Remove the fenderwell liner.  This is the black plastic piece that wraps around the inside of the fenderwell and under the front bumper.  The liner is held on by several 8mm hex bolts (all the same size), simply work your way around the piece being careful to remove all screws.
  3. With the fenderwell liner removed, you should see a large black piece that looks like a reservoir of sorts.  This is the intake resonator, or as it's often referred to as - the bong.
  4. Notice the long threaded bolt with a 10mm nut installed.  This bolt holds both the intake resonator and the washer fluid bottle in place.  Remove this nut.
  5. The intake resonator is also held in place by 2 plastic snaps at the bottom.  Simply grab hold of the resonator and work it out through the fenderwell hole.
  6. Reinstall the nut (from Step 4) that held the intake resonator in place.
  7. Reinstall the fenderwell liner, being careful to align it properly near the top of the wheel well where it meets the rear fenderwell liner piece.
  8. Reinstall the wheel, torquing the wheel studs to 100ft-lbs each.  Lower jack.
  9. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for at least 15 minutes.  This will allow the computer to reset, such that the gains from removing the intake resonator will be apparent sooner.
