-
Open the hood and locate the Coolant Surge Tank, located
on the passenger side of the engine bay on both the 2.2L and 2.4L
models. You should check the coolant level when the engine is
fully cooled.
-
Look at the front of the surge tank. There is a
"Full Cold" indicator - when the engine is cold, the coolant
level should be at or above this line. If you are a
"spirited" driver, you will want to fill the coolant level to
approximately 3/8ths of an inch above this "Cold" line to
prevent the low coolant light from coming on. If you fill it too
full, the excess will drain through an overflow tube, preventing any
sort of damage (except to the environment).
-
If you need to add fluid, use GM Dex-Cool Antifreeze
only, part #10953031 [1L, full strength]. Mix the Dex-Cool 50/50
with distilled water, and add to the coolant surge tank only when the
engine is cold. Removing the coolant surge tank cap when the
engine is warm or hot may result in steam burns.
