- Draw a template to the exact size of the side marker lamp that you
have purchased.
- Attach this template to the fender of the vehicle. Center it
based on a point of reference of your choice (in this case, Vincent
used the side moulding as a reference).
- Drill the mounting holes for the side marker assembly. Also,
drill the pilot hole for the larger hole in the center of the
template.
- Using progressively larger Uni-Bit bit sizes, increase the size of
the center hole until it is within approximately 1/8th inch of the
final size of the hole. Do not enlarge the hole to its finished
diameter with the Uni-Bit, as it will result in a jagged edge.
- Carefully enlarge the hole with the Dremel tool and grinding bit
until its large enough for the marker assembly to fit. You may
wish to tape around the hole so that you have some protection in case
the Dremel bit slips and ruins your paint.
- Using the metal sanding drum, remove any remaining burred edges
around the hole.
- Using the touch-up paint, or fingernail polish, paint the edges of
the holes to prevent them from rusting.
- Extend the wire leads that come off the side marker assembly so that
they will be long enough to attach into the front turn signal
assembly. Ensure good connections by using butt connectors or
solder, and tape the connections well with electrical tape
- Seal the openings in the side marker assembly with silicone to
prevent water from seeping in and shorting out your wiring.
- Open the hood and using the flat
screwdriver remove the retaining clips that hold in the black plastic
panel over the headlight assemblies.
- Remove the (4) 13mm bolts that hold
the headlights in place.
- Now you will have access to the front
turn signal assemblies in the bumper. Locate the wiring to these
assemblies by twisting
the bulb socket counter-clockwise to remove it.
- Route a coat hanger down through the
inner fender.
- Once routed out the new side marker light hole, slip the marker
light gasket over the wire, and tape the wire securely to the coat
hanger.
- Pull the coat hanger back through to
the front of the car.
- Align the gasket and side marker lamp assembly, and slide it into
the holes you created. Align the
marker lamp, and install with the screws that should be provided.
- Remove the wiring from the wire loom
where it connects to the front turn signal lamp assembly. Cut
these 2 wires, and splice in the 2 new wires you ran through for the
new side marker lights.
- Check the operation of the side marker lamp before permanently
connecting wires. If everything
works ok, make connections permanent using butt connectors, and
securely tape all connections with electrical tape.
- Install the wiring back into the wire
loom, and install the lens cover over your new side marker lens.
Replace the turn signal socket into its housing.
- Repeat this procedure for the other side!.
- Reinstall the headlights and headlight
shroud. You're done!
