Amber Rear Turn Signal Mod - 95+ Cavalier

Skill Level Step-By-Step Instructions
Medium
  1. Open the hood and using the flat screwdriver remove the retaining clips that hold in the black plastic panel over the headlight assemblies.
  2. Remove the (4) 13mm bolts that hold the headlights in place.
  3. Now you will have access to the front turn signal assemblies in the bumper.  Remove these by twisting the bulb socket counter-clockwise.  Both front turn signals have 3 wires (blue, brown, black), so keep track of your left and right side connections.
  4. Cut the blue wire and connect it in-line with the new 18GA wire that wire be routed to the rear of the car.  Do this to both the right and left sides and route these two wires through the firewall.
  5. Pry up the side moulding along the drivers door and pull
back the carpet.  Run the wire underneath the carpet and beside the back seat and underneath the carpeting in the trunk.
  6. Open the trunk and remove the 4 T-shaped screws that hold the cargo net in place.
  7. Pry up the piece over the trunk latch, it's held in with four clips.
  8. Next pull back the carpeting and now you will have access to the outer taillight assemblies.  Now look at the inboard lamp assemblies in the trunk lid itself.  Remove the sockets to the back-up lights by twisting them counter-clockwise.
  9. Remove the stock bulb and replace it with the new #3057NA bulb.
  10. There will be 2 wires going to the back-up bulbs (green & black).  Cut the green wire to each bulb, and attach
the 18GA wire to the side of the wire still connected to the bulb.
  11. Take the other end of the green wire that you cut and tape it up.  Note: this wire can be used if desired to connect to a new bulb housing to re-install the back-up light function.
  12. Route the wires along the inside of the trunk lid shell toward one of the hinges.
  13. Next find the wiring going to the 3rd brake light assembly - there will be 2 wires (white & black) going to a connector.  Cut the white wire and connect a piece of 18GA wire in-line that will be routed to the brake lights.
  14. Route the wire inside the shell along with the 2 wires you just ran from the back-up bulbs.  Attach the wire loom to the trunk hinge and route the 3 wires though it
into the trunk compartment.  Be sure that the lid will go up and down and not damage the wires.
  15. Next find the brake light socket that will have 3 wires (Pass side = green, brown, black)  (Driver side = yellow, brown, black).  Cut the green wire (pass side) and attach 2 pieces of the 18GA wire running from the 3rd brake light to the end still attached to the bulb.  Tape up the other end of the green wire to prevent shorting.
  16. Run the 18GA wire not connected to the drivers side, cut the yellow wire and attach the 18GA to the bulb end.  Tape the other end of the cut yellow wire to prevent shorting.
  17. Next connect the other 2 new wires that you ran from the trunk lid to the ones you ran from the front bumper turn signals, keeping track of right and left sides respectively.
  18. Test all circuits, brake lights, parking lights, turn signals, etc. before re-installing the front assemblies.  If everything works then you're done!
