No major events to report, Thursday was basically a 'goof-off' day, but take a look thru the pics!

Accident Enroute To Lordstown Assembly - August 11th

A very minor accident occured enroute to Lordstown Assembly. Tara Koniow (affectionately known as "Nipps") was rear-ended at low speed by a Chevy Lumina, and as a result she rolled into Ryan Cooper (QuickCavZ24). In a second incident, Tara was rear-ended by a Jeep, which was in turn rear-ended by another Cavalier. Thankfully little damage was done to all vehicles, and more importantly there were no injuries to report.

After a minor delay and the minor accident that occured enroute to Lordstown Assembly, J2K attendees got a chance to check out the RK Sport Cavalier & Sunfire, the Monsoon Sunfire, the 2000 Z24 Supercharged prototype car (in testing for Supercharger production slated for "Spring 2001" - according to a GM official).  Attendees also experienced a tour of the assembly plant, including a new addition to the tour - attendees got to witness GM officials as they "rattle tested" J-Bodies rolling off the assembly line.  Cavaliers & Sunfires were started, the hoods were popped (but not raised), and production workers drove the cars over a bump course and then into a headlight alignment bay.  GM workers were squealing the tires, doing e-brake burnouts, and slamming the cars into park whilst still moving.

During before-tour speeches, GM Officials announced that GM Performance Parts will be carrying more performance parts for the J-Body, including supercharger kits (Under $3000, planned to include fuel system upgrades, an attached manifold, ECU, and possibly a polished IDI cover - under 4 hour install time with standard tools.

In addition, GM will also be selling low-key body kits, suspension enhancements, braking enhancements, and other engine upgrades (headers, exhaust, cams, etc.) in the near future.  All of these new parts are said to be included in GM's 2001 Performance Parts catalog.

A GM official also announced that GM will be producing a 2.5L Hybrid engine - based on the 2.3 block and the 2.4 Cam.  This engine will be produced and marketed with an Eaton M-62 Supercharger and sold in approximately 2000 Cavaliers and 2000 Sunfires.  Production is said to occur near the end of 2001, when the 2.4TC will be retired.  This engine will also allegedly be available for purchase as a crate engine from GM Performance Parts.

There was intense media coverage surrounding the Lordstown Assembly visit, and newspaper articles and coverage will appear on TFM.Com soon.

Another Accident - August 11th

A second more severe accident occured enroute to the Quaker City Dragway. Matt Monaghan's '99 Z24 was rear-ended at moderate speed by a 2000 Z24, causing almost $2000 in damage to his rear end. Occupants of both vehicles were unhurt, even though the airbags did fire in the 2000 Z.
